Description
Monet's "Houses of Parliament, London" series was completed from a viewpoint overlooking the Thames River. Parliament provided a static subject which Monet could paint at various light conditions, with these paintings illustrating how changing the light conditions can effect ones perception. London's fogginess at the time was the perfect match for Monet's painting style and he utilized it in painting several canvases strikingly colored and coated in fog.
"Without the fog, London would not be a beautiful city. It is the fog which gives it its marvelous breadth." – Claude Monet
